How Can We Help You?

Tom DeGennaro

Maryland Family Lawyer

“My goal as a family law litigator is to create a pragmatic solution that does not compromise your core values.”

Tom DeGennaro is an associate divorce attorney at Maryland family law firm Trainor, Billman, Bennett & Milko, LLP. Tom handles all types of family law cases, including divorce, child support, child custody, alimony/spousal support, property division, and more. He is always eager to take on a new or unique challenge. Tom adheres to a client-specific approach to practicing family law; that is, every client’s particular problems and needs are different, and, therefore, each solution must be individually tailored to address those specific problems and needs. Tom DeGennaro prides himself on always being over-prepared for every hearing or trial, no matter how routine it may appear.

A Family Lawyer Trained by Anne Arundel County Family Law Judges

Prior to joining Trainor, Billman, Bennett & Milko, Tom was honored to serve as a judicial law clerk to Judge Paul F. Harris, Jr. and Judge Donna M. Schaeffer, both of the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. Both judges had concentrated family law experience, in practice and on the bench, so right from the start of his legal career – even before he started practicing himself – Tom was exposed to and absorbed invaluable knowledge and experience in the area of family law. As a judicial law clerk, Tom would prepare his judges for their cases, observe trial procedures, and draft legal orders and opinions for them. He learned crisp and succinct writing, direct legal reasoning, and proper courtroom decorum even before he began working on his own cases. Tom DeGennaro draws on that experience every day that he practices family law in Maryland. In addition to learning from the judges, Tom had the opportunity to observe firsthand family law litigation nuance and strategy as well as trial practice. Simply put, his tenure as a judicial law clerk was a formative and priceless experience that shaped his career as a divorce and family law attorney.

Tom came to Trainor, Billman, Bennett & Milko directly from his law clerking experience. He began as a skilled back-office producer, bringing his substantial writing and research skills to the partners’ family law cases. The partners quickly recognized his sharp analytic skills and ability to plan and execute entire cases and trials and moved him out of the back-office to the front lines. He instills confidence in clients, handling their divorce and family law matters with compassion and insight as well as with considerable skill.

Maryland Family Lawyer Tom DeGennaro’s Personal Interests

Tom lives in Crownsville, Anne Arundel with his wife, Athena, and their two rescue dogs from Kuwait, Hera and Cali. In his free time, he enjoys running, going to the beach, and curating Hera and Cali’s Instagram account (who has more followers than he). Tom is a reluctantly faithful D.C. sports fan, and he enjoys following his beloved Washington Redskins. A fun fact about Tom is that his first client was a Siberian Husky, who despite a successful verdict, has not written Tom a positive review (yet)!

Tom DeGennaro is a member of the Anne Arundel County Bar Association and the Maryland State Bar Association. He is a proud supporter of and volunteer for Wings of Love, Kuwait: the organization that he and his wife adopted their dogs from. Although Tom is not a veteran, he holds a particular spot in his heart for the men and women of our military. Inspired by a veteran relative who was injured overseas, Tom ran in the Marine Corps Marathon while in law school to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund.
