James D. Milko joined Trainor, Billman in 2002. With 14 years of legal experience, he focuses his practice entirely in the area of Family Law. At the age of twenty-six, and only one year out of law school, Mr. Milko successfully argued before the entire Maryland Court of Special Appeals en banc in the case of North v. North – a nationally recognized case involving one of the first reported appellate decisions in the United States addressing the effect of a parent's HIV-positive status on custodial/visitation issues.

Throughout his 14 years of practice, Mr. Milko has handled a wide-range of family law matters at both the trial and appellate court levels, including complex child custody and visitation disputes, as well as cases involving intricate issues of marital property and alimony. His experience also includes the representation of clients in a variety of related forums, including domestic violence/protective order proceedings, abuse investigations, and multi-jurisdictional custody cases.

Mr. Milko has published articles in a variety of academic and legal publications regarding family law issues. Recently he has given seminars on both the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act and the Maryland domestic violence statute.

In 1993, Mr. Milko was the recipient of the Washington College of Law International Academy of Trial Lawyers Advocacy Award for Outstanding Ability in Trial Advocacy.

Beyond the bar, Mr. Milko is the proud parent of two wonderful children and is involved in a variety of youth sports and activity programs. He enjoys the outdoors, athletics, and writing.
